Criteria for Performing Installation of Kiona Hardware
In order to carry out an installation, you must:
- Be qualified to carry out electrical installations.
- Know how to find the outdoor temperature in your heating controller/SCADA system.
- Assigned a personal Edge login from the real estate company.
- Read the manual.
- Carry and use measuring equipment for control measurement of resistance, voltage and polarity.
New hardware
The new hardware, which will replace existing Hubs (outdoor sensors) and gateways, is of one and the same model. This model looks like our existing Hubs but can be used as both a Hub (outdoor sensor) and a gateway (sensor collection).
What determines this is partly whether they are connected to the heating controller or not, and partly what type of unit they are registered as.
NOTE!
Before a new device is connected to the power supply, voltage and polarity MUST be measured to +24VDC, this is checked on the terminals where the unit's red + black cable is supposed to be connected.
Otherwise, Hub/GW risks breaking down and we will have to bill for a new unit.
If our junction box is used, control measurement is made on the P2 terminal block (see below).
Info
During installation, the contract number is needed. The easiest way to find this is on the delivery note for the new hardware.
Hub (outdoor sensor) exchange
1 - Locate existing Hub and substation
- The Hub is usually located on the north side of the building. In the substation, you will find the junction box with the Hub's transformer.
2 - Substation transformer
- Turn off the power to the Hub and then replace the existing junction box and transformer with the new one that comes in the package (230VAC->+24VDC). If the Hub does not use the transformer but uses another power source, make sure it is +24VDC.
Tip
Take a picture of how the cables are connected before you unplug them so you can be sure that the same colour goes into the same input again.
Plinth:
1 = Power supply
2 = Cables from outdoor sensors
3 = Signal cables
3 - Hub on exterior facade
- Replace the existing Hub on the facade with the new device. Save the old Hub for the registration process.
- Make sure that the cables are connected with the same colour combination as the existing connector.
- When everything is fully connected, the unit should be powered. Then the diode on the Hub should be flashing green and the diode in the junction box should be lit red.
- Capture both close-up and distant photos of the installed HUB:
- Close-up photos for quality assurance of the mounting.
- Distant photos for easy identification in case of future troubleshooting.
4 - Registration
- Scan the QR code on the new Hub.
- Follow the steps in the tool until you receive confirmation of successful installation. Keep reading the manual to get more information about each step of the registration process.
Hub registration
- Scan the QR code on the new Hub.
- Log in with your credentials, if you don't have any - Contact your contact person at the real estate company.
- Select Hub (2.0)
- Enter the contract number (found on the delivery note) of the property you are installing on.
- Enter the GSM number found inside the old Hub and proceed to unregister it, then click next.
Note: The label on the circuit board may vary in location and is sometimes on the backside.
- Select the location by using GPS or enter the address.
- Click on the map where the Hub is located to place a marker.
- You can also add detailed information about the placement in a text field.
- Select the antenna that is connected to the Hub.
- Upload the photos you took earlier.
- The signal type from the previous HUB is automatically selected, please proceed with that option.
- Make sure that the value of Teq displayed in the tool corresponds to the outside temperature of the controller.
- Press – 10 to start signal test. The Hub will now simulate -10 degrees for 1 or 2 minutes. Make sure you get this value in the heating controller. Once the test is complete, the temperature will be restored to normal.
- Press +10 to start signal test. The Hub will now simulate +10 degrees for 1 or 2 minutes. Make sure you get this value in the heating controller. Once the test is complete, the temperature will be restored to normal.
- If the test results are ok (Maximum difference of 1.5 ºC), click on the "I accept" box and then on Next. If the test is not ok, check that cables are connected correctly and try again.
- Verify if the HUB is receiving sensors. The test may take up to five minutes.
- A summary will now be shown, check that all the information is correct and click "I Accept," and then click Next.
- Registration complete! Call Kiona installation support (0300-25945) for verification.
- Place the sticker (Important! This heating system is optimized by Kiona...) on top of the old one from “Egain” or nearby the heating controller.
NOTE!
Very important that the outdoor temperature is correct before leaving the substation. If you are unsure, you should call Kiona's installation support.
Gateway exchange
1 - Locate existing gateway
- The gateway can either be installed:
- Outdoor, recycling station, façade, roof.
- Indoors, usually in the stairwell.
- You may also have been given a brand-new placement by Kiona.
- If you are unable to find the unit or have not received location information, you are welcome to call our installation support at 0300-25945.
- The older gateway may have slightly different appearances:
2 - Installation
- Once the correct placement has been found, the following points should be followed:
- Mount the new gateway.
- Check voltage and polarity to +24VDC before powering the gateway. (This is checked on P2 in the picture below)
- When the Gateway is powered, a red light will flash on the bottom, when the light flashes green, it is OK to start the registration process.
- Capture both close-up and distant photos of the installed gateway:
- Close-up photos for quality assurance of the mounting.
- Distant photos for easy identification in case of future troubleshooting.
3 - Registration
- Scan the QR code on the new device.
- Follow the steps in the tool until you receive confirmation of successful installation. Continue to follow the manual for instructions on each step of the registration process.
