To achieve the best possible results, there are some things to pay extra attention to, even after the equipment is installed and coverage has been checked. Here are our tips for setup and possible obstacles you may encounter:
General – planning and design
- Never place wireless equipment in a closed cabinet.
- Always start with a coverage test to find the best path for the signal to be sent/received — check antenna direction.
- If necessary, set up amplifier(s) at long distances or where there are many obstacles.
- Test the solution and speed, and document it.
- Be aware that changes in buildings, furnishings and other equipment may affect the wireless equipment in the future.
There are essentially 2 main factors that affect wireless signals
1. Building construction
- Reinforced concrete in floors, ceilings and walls
- Aluminium, steel, mirrors, windows and other metals in walls/ceilings/floors
- Furnishings and any goods within these
- Changes in building structures, walls and furnishings
2. Other components in the building
- Other wireless components
- Dimmers, transformers, DAB radios, Bluetooth components, microwave ovens, hobs (induction), converters, LED lights, and cables that are not laid in accordance with regulations
- Traffic between buildings communicating with wireless equipment
- Tanks containing water or other liquid
Other
The points mentioned above and other obstacles to wireless signals can be weakened or blocked regardless of the type of transmitter and receiver (price/quality). Solutions to overcome such obstacles may include installing amplifiers or antennas, or finding a different placement for the equipment that needs to send and receive signals.
