Web Port can use GSM modems or an email to SMS service to transmit alarms through SMS. For this to work, a GSM modem is required that connects either to a physical or virtual COM port on Windows. Communication to the modem must be possible via AT commands.
The following settings can be made:
Setting: | Description: |
COM port | Indicates the number of the COM port where the modem is located |
Communication speed | Communication speed of the modem in baud |
Tip!
Verify that the connection to the GSM modem is correct by sending a test message.
Enter a message and the phone number to which the text message should be sent, and then click Send.
NOTE!
GSM modems require SIM cards which are associated with running costs, either for a prepaid card or for a subscription.
SIM cards are provided by telephone operators.
Tip!
There are also services that convert email to SMS.
In this way, SMS can be sent by using only the e-mail function in Web Port by adding the user’s phone number formatted as phonenumber@emailhost, e.g. 078888888@mailservice.com.
For alarm transmissions by SMS, an email is instead sent to 078888888@mailservice.com, which is a format many e-mail-to-SMS services use.
